Biography

Kool Keith

Keith Matthew Thornton originally started his entertainment career as a Breakdancer with the New York City Breakers in the early 1980's under the name "Activity".

Keith was more of a Pop Locker as seen in these classic videos, performing for Ronald Reagan and performing on TV with jazzy Jay.

Keith then later started his rap career in 1984 and formed the group Ultramagnetic MCs Which consisted of Kool Keith, Ced Gee, Moe Love and Tr Love. The Ultramagnetic Mc's had numerous hit singles such as "To give you love", "Ego Trippin", "Ease Back", "Funky" and many others.

Thornton released his first solo Ep Big Willie Smith with the Beat Terrorists (Tr Love and Kutmasta Kurt) in 1995 Followed by "the Cenobites" LP with Godfather Don.

Thornton released his first notable solo single, "Earth People," in 1995, under the name Dr. Octagon, followed by the release of Dr. Octagonecologyst the following year. The album's production by Dan the Automator and Kutmasta Kurt, with scratching by DJ Qbert was acclaimed by critics, and the album was released nationally by DreamWorks Records, which also issued an instrumental version of the album, titled Instrumentalyst (Octagon Beats). Thornton followed the album with Sex Style in 1996 under the name Kool Keith.

Kool Keith

In 1996, Thornton collaborated with Tim Dog for the single "The Industry is Wack," performing under the name Ultra. In 1999, he released the album First Come, First Served under the name "Dr. Dooom", in which the album's main character killed off Dr. Octagon on the album's opening track.

On August 10, 1999, Thornton released Black Elvis/Lost in Space. It peaked at #10 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, #74 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, and #180 on the Billboard 200. On July 25, 2000, Thornton released the album Matthew. It peaked at #47 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. The same year, Thornton collaborated with Ice-T, Marc Live, Black Silver and Pimp Rex for the album Pimp to Eat, under the group name Analog Brothers, with Keith performing as Keith Korg and Ice-T as Ice Oscillator. He also released "Masters Of Illusion" a collaboration with Kutmasta Kurt and Motion man the same year.

On June 5, 2001, Thornton released the album Spankmaster on Esham's Gothom Records. It peaked at #16 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, #11 on the Top Independent Albums chart and #48 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

Kool Keith

In 2002, Thornton began recording The Return of Dr. Octagon with producer Fanatik J, signing a contract with CMH Records to release the album, which was eventually completed without much input from Thornton, due to a falling out over contractual terms. Thornton, Marc Live and H-Bomb formed the group KHM, releasing the album Game on November 2002, later changing their name to "The Clayborne Family" for the release of their second album.

In 2003 Keith released the 1st of the series "the Lost Masters" and began to do more of his own production. In 2004 he released "Diesel Truckers" with Kutmasta Kurt, "White Label Mix Series Vol 1" with Nancy Des Rose, and "The Personal Album"

On October 12, 2004, Real Talk Entertainment issued the unauthorized release Dr. Octagon Part 2. The album was discontinued by court order. In 2005 he releases the album "Lost Masters volume 2". On April 25, 2006, Thornton released the album Nogatco Rd. under the name Mr. Nogatco and the album "Project Polaroid" with Tomc3. "The Commi$$ioner" album also was released the same year. On June 27, The Return of Dr. Octagon was released by OCD International, an imprint of CMH, advertised as the official follow-up to Dr. Octagonecologyst. Some critics felt that it was not as good as its predecessor. Thornton stated that he liked the album, but felt that it hurt his reputation as a musician. In August, Thornton performed under the Dr. Octagon billing, but did not acknowledge the release of the OCD album.

In 2007, Keith released The Commi$$ioner 2, Sex Style The Unreleased Archives and Ultramagnetic MCs released the reunion album The Best Kept Secret. 2008 saw the release of Dr Dooom 2 who was brought back to kill Dr. Octagon once again, in retaliation to the Return of Dr. Octagon album released by OCD International. In 2009, Kool Keith released the concept album Tashan Dorrsett produced by Dj Junkaz Lou; and a follow-up The Legend of Tashan Dorrsett, that was a remix of the original album. 2008 saw the formation of the group Project X - Kool Keith, Marc Live & Tim Dog, They did a world tour but with the project in Tim Dogs hands it was unfortunatly never officially released and later surfaced only as a digital release online.

2009 saw the collaboration with the Japanese band 54-71 with the album Idea of a Master Piece, followed by Lost Masters Collection with the 3rd instalment of the Lost Masters series. In 2010 Keith did a collaboration album with Denis Deft & Yeti Beats called Bikinis N Thongs. In 2012, Kool Keith released another collaboration with Dj Junkaz Lou called Love and Danger and has stated that he considered retiring from music. Kool Keith now goes by the name Number One Producer and produces his own work and sells his own produced beats.

Dr Octagon is a persona used in 1995 for the album Dr Octagon. An extraterrestrial time traveling gynecologist and surgeon from the planet Jupiter.

Dr Dooom is a persona used in 1996 for the Dr Dooom album. He is the Evil twin brother of Black Elvis and is a cannibalistic serial killer that was created to kill Dr Octagon.

Robbie Analog

Robbie Analog was a persona used in the 1999 Dr Dooom album cover insert mocking the Rza from the Wu Tang for making the album persona Bobby Digital. He was also thanked in the Black Elvis credit notes.

Black Elvis

Black Elvis is a persona used in the Black Elvis / Lost in Space album. He is the twin brother of Dr Dooom, a space travelling rockstar that is lost in space.

Keith Televesquez is a persona used in the Black Elvis / Lost in Space album on the track "Clifton". Televesquez is also featured in the Masters of Illusion videos "Let me talk to you" and "We all over" and is also thanked in the Black Elvis credit notes.
